When patrons check out items or return items, you will be charging those items or discharging them in Alma. You will need to know how to pull up the patron’s record, and perform this basic fulfillment task.

Each college will have to set its calendar to reflect its libraries’ opening and closing hours, as well as any local closures that might occur. This is so that Alma can calculate when materials are due back in your library, and so that due dates can automatically be moved to a date following a closure.

Libraries will need to set up their fulfillment settings to manage overdues and lost items, as well as what to do with blocks and fines, and notices that are sent out notifying the patron of overdue items.

WHY IT IS IMPORTANT:
Libraries can set up automated user notices, so that patrons can receive emails or printouts depending on certain circumstances. Loan receipts and return receipts can be sent to patrons when they check out and return items. A courtesy notice is sent when items are close to their due date. Overdue and lost notices are sent depending on the settings in the college’s overdue and lost loan profiles.

Items can be placed on a reserve list, typically for a course being taught at your college, where items can either be added temporarily or permanently to the collection, and due dates can be set or modified to allow the materials to circulate in a predetermined way.
